Gateway Medical Solutions
Gateway Medical Solutions LLC (GMS) is an independent revenue cycle firm based in Sullivan, Missouri, that handles billing and provider enrollment for physician practices and clinics. Its website carries a copyright date of 2007, and the company says it was included in Becker's Hospital Review's 2025 roundup of 300 revenue cycle management firms.
GMS keeps its billing work in the United States and relies on two partners: AdvancedMD, whose software it uses to run client accounts, and MCA Collection Agency, a Missouri collector it has worked with for years.
Services
GMS presents itself as a full-service outsourcing partner that can take over most of a practice's back-office revenue work. Its services include:
- Electronic claim filing, plus paper submissions to carriers that do not accept electronic filing
- Charge and demographic entry, along with checks that insurance coverage is active and correct
- Posting of insurer and patient payments, including copays if the client prefers not to do it
- Patient statements mailed weekly within a monthly cycle
- Follow-up on aged and denied claims, claim tracking and refund handling
- Answers to billing questions from patients and office staff
- Credentialing with third-party payers, revalidations, CAQH updates and help with managed care contracts
- Monthly reporting and financial reviews with the provider
- Referrals to collections through MCA when the client requests it
- Coding feedback, a yearly Evaluation and Management documentation audit and billing education
How the workflow runs
According to the firm, charges are sent through AdvancedMD within a day after a provider signs and locks a note in the EHR, or after a signed superbill arrives. Every account has its own biller plus a backup, so charges keep going out during absences. The team also watches for unsigned visits and asks providers to finish them.
Claims run through AdvancedMD's scrubber, which checks for more than 3,000 types of errors, and supervisors review anything that passes before it goes to the clearinghouse. If a CPT or diagnosis code looks wrong or won't be paid, staff contact the provider so it can be fixed. A provider liaison also offers coding training at no extra charge.
Each client also gets a named payment poster who enters electronic remittances every day. When a claim is denied over coordination of benefits, the poster mails the patient a stamped notice asking them to update their coverage with their insurer.
A designated EDI staff member sets up claim agreements with payers and electronic funds transfer, so payments go straight into the practice's bank account. Credentialing specialists can add payers or physicians, revalidate contracts, update CAQH records and change locations or pay-to addresses at no added cost.
Specialties, systems and terms
Staff profiles show experience with family practice, pediatrics, neonatal clinics and a range of specialty practices, and one posting team member handles Spanish-language patient calls. GMS says it has experience with more than twenty EHR and EMR platforms, including Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, athenahealth, Allscripts, Kareo/Tebra, Practice Fusion, PointClickCare, WebPT, DrChrono and VistA CPRS.
Clients get access to their own AdvancedMD account and its library of more than 3,000 reports, and the firm passes on a discount on the practice management system. Fees are a percentage of what is collected each month. The agreement renews month to month and can be ended with 30 days' notice, so there is no long-term commitment.
Several members of the posting department have been with the company since between 2013 and 2017.
